So I've always loved this trilogy. I decided to order myself a new copy and my best friend a copy for her birthday. The books were tossed into the box and were slightly damaged. Top corner of one is crincled and the other's cover was bent at some point. As a book lover, my body started twitching in irritation instantly. It's certainly not bad enough to demand action from the seller but I do hope they take more care when boxing up books.

One of my favorite fiction writers, I've read every one of her books.She makes you like and cheer for characters that would be the "bad guys" in other stories. She creates another world with it's own rules but without complex genealogies or other distractions found in some similar styles of writing. Your sucked into the story and before you know it there is a sense that you know the characters and have empathy for these creatures that are the stuff of nightmares and fantasy.
How do you write a book in which demons are smart, personable, pleasant, likeable, etc. and the human they interact with the villains? Anne Bishop has succeeded with this interesting, sexy, sometimes funny series of stories based on a mythical land and culture. I've read 6 of the books in this series, and was only disappointed in one in which she changed the main characters and created a new set. But these book (3 volumes complete) #4 and #6 are worth every penny and second you spend. Oh btw, the "chosen one" in her world is a young woman.
It's an amazing series. I actually ordered it for a friend who'd read it when she was younger and got myself a second copy to read as well. It's great.
I found myself emotionally attached to the characters and the words just flow so well it's a pleasure to immerse myself in it.

If you like fantasy and a little bit of romance along with big emotional twists and turns, check it out.
This was one of my favorite reads and did want the seperate books but this was cheaper. Its a bit big to have in lap but the story is fantastic. when looking up these books, I noticed the trilogy continues on and theres more!!! Now I will have to get the other books too. I would recommend this to anyone who loves Anne Bishop and fantasy stories, its pure genius.

If you are considering this book and love fantasy, witchcraft, dark stories & deep characters--look no further. I purchased all three books in one and it was the best decision!

The character development is amazing. Not for one minute did I feel like this story was slow. It was perfectly paced mixed with explanation and action. I always give myself the first 100 pages of a book to decide if I'm going to finish it and I have to admit that this book is dense. I kept a list of characters, realm names, and their peoples' races to keep my facts straight which definitely helped. I love the uniqueness of the three books and that it's not all ONE storyline as previously mentioned there are many different characters in realms and the mystery is finding their connections.
My sister gifted me this trilogy after reading it half a dozen times herself. Then I read it so many times it disintegrated with overuse. I had to replace it with a new copy. That's how good this book is. Anne Bishop is one of only 3-4 authors whose books I actually collect in bound form and have re-read each of her novels at least 9 times over. I hunt for her new works and each is highly anticipated. She's an excellent author with a highly creative, unpredictable mind.
I LOVED this series!!! I borrowed this series from a friend, rather she forced it on me since this is not normally the type of books I read and I'll admit it sat on my desk for months with me glaring at it, cause really who wants to be forced to read a book? Once I started it though I never regretted it and it is now one of those books I carry around everywhere with me. I have loaned it out 4 times and had to replace it every time because friends kept keeping it!

It is a story following the life of a young girl through terrible events in her life to her adulthood and the people around her that hinder or encourage her along the way. I found it a very strong female lead character driven book although the way it was written I found very unique and honestly it wasn't until my 10th reading that I realized that it is never written from the main characters point of view, just everyone around her and yet still had a very rich and strong main character. There are parts of it that I found hard to read due to tough emotional things but didn't take away from the story at all, in fact it added to it. I also loved the way the world was developed throughout the story I actually felt like I was there and that can be a tough thing to do in stories, you either have it too detailed in which case it gets boring and you start skipping sections or not detailed enough in which case as characters are interacting with the environment you are confused about what is going on.

Long story short, if you like strong female leads who aren't whiny or "woe to me" this is a read for you! As I said before I was happily surprised as has been everyone I've made read the books -)
