I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read and drew me in from the first page. The humor in the book kept me smirking and I truly enjoyed myself as I read it. The storyline was very intriguing, it was definitely out there, and I like that. With this type of book, you either love it or hate it, and well I obviously loved it. I also know they're making this book into a movie, and so far the trailer looks like they stuck to the writing. So, I can't wait to see it! It comes out on September 18, 2009, I recommend you read the book first and then see it come to life in the movie.Tags : Amazon.com: Jennifer's Body (9780061808920): Audrey Nixon: Books,Audrey Nixon,Jennifer's Body,HarperFestival,006180892X,Horror,Media Tie-In,Social Themes - Friendship,Demonology;Fiction.,Friendship;Fiction.,High schools;Fiction.,Children's Books - Young Adult Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Demonology,Fiction,Friendship,Girls & Women,High schools,Horror & Ghost Stories,Horror Ghost Stories (Young Adult),Juvenile Fiction General,Juvenile Fiction Girls & Women,Juvenile Fiction Horror & Ghost Stories,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Young Adult Fiction Horror,Young Adult Fiction Media Tie-In,Young Adult Fiction Social Themes Friendship
Jennifer Body Audrey Nixon Books Reviews
I don't know when, exactly, I got it into my head that it would be a good idea to read this. It was like seeing an accident and not being able to leave without finding out the details. Because I've only seen parts of the movie, and this actually looked vaguely interesting, so . . . Well. It was an . . . experience.
The parts that were supposed to be funny (I assume they were meant to make me laugh. Otherwise I would be more horrified) were simply cringe-worthy and all of the gory, gruesome details that I knew were coming (because, c'mon, it's a book about mysterious `killings') were just laid there plain and simply while Needy didn't seem bothered by it in the slightest. There was no emotion from her, nothing really from internal dialogue, although it was in first person. But, really, I shouldn't have expected much more from a novelization of a screenplay.
I really don't recommend this book. Particularly for those looking for a fun, easy read that is partly horrifying and partly humorous. You won't find anything to take away from this. It contradicts itself, leaves some things unanswered, is very bland and boring. Even when people are dying.
How do you make that boring? How?
Search elsewhere for better, well-written horror stories. You'll be a happier person.
I learned a little more about the characters and happenings, but the change of dialogue definitely threw me off. I finished it though, so that's something.
This is an awesome book that includes some things left out of my favorite movie of all time.
Pretty neat read
I was eager to pick up the novelization of JENNIFER'S BODY after I found that one had been written. However, my excitement quickly dropped down a notch when I found out it was a young adult book, which immediately spelled dread. Much to my digress, I bought the book and read it within a few hours. While I am happy to say that it follows the movie to the T (and bridges events that didn't make sense in the movie,) the dialogue in the book was extremely unrealistic, particularly in regards to how Needy reacts to her boyfriend's eventual demise ('holy crap!' is not a proper phrase to use as your boyfriend is getting eaten alive.)
I would have loved to see a more adult approach to this story. It was obviously more adult-driven just based on the character Amanda Seyfried played in the film, which makes it hard for me to understand why the author would dumb it down for a more 'teen-friendly' audience (though I can blame the publisher for this.)
This is a fun book which can easily be read in a few hours. I might have enjoyed it more if I were a younger teen, but it isn't a bad book.
Really good book love it just as much as the movie a few secret hidden secrets here n there that help me understand some stuff better
A curious aspect of the paperback-only novelization of "Jennifer's Body" is that it is 194 pages, yet I read it inside of one hour. The longest book of any significant length that I've ever finished in so small an amount of time. That's probably the most remarkable thing about it, as a matter of fact. Typically, a novelization of a video game or movie has greater detail and is more extensive than the original form. In this case, it's actually the other way around. Audrey Nixon, for some reason or another, decided to simplify the novel and format it in a way to make it more acceptable to a lower age level. Lower and mid teens, I guess, as opposed to upper teens. This, I feel, is the mistake that was made in the writing of this novel. Not a mistake. The mistake. It is never a good idea to have a film and its novel be meant for distinctly different audiences. People who saw the movie will be confused when they read the novel, and people who read the novel will, if they are even allowed, be rather rudely surprised when they see the movie.
Not that the two bear no resemblance to one another, however. Jennifer Check still kills boys and eats them, and Needy Lesnicky still brings her down in the end. But its told in a simpler and less graphic format than the movie- once again, the apparent fact that each was intended for a notably different audience leaps readily to mind. In one notable case, however, the novel did manage to include something the movie did not- indications of the truth about the band Low Shoulder, and more than just what the movie already showed us about their self-serving deal with Satan. What the novel shows us, towards the beginning and towards the end, is not just that Low Shoulder are not very good guys- they are *cowards*. I liked the fact that the novel manages to make Low Shoulder even more repulsive than they are in the movie. So that it did well.
Overall, this is more or less the events of the film "Jennifer's Body" in simplified, written form. I only recommend it if you really did like the movie, can find a copy at a low price, and don't open it up expecting too much. Meet those three requirements and you could certainly find worse ways to spend a few dollars.
